English Garden
When you leave the Hofgarten in the north-east, a path leads directly to the English garden, the oldest and largest park in Munich. There are quite a few sites in the park amazing as the Chinese Tour with its huge Biergarten, the artificial lake “Kleinhesseloher Show” and the highest point of view of the park, the Monopteros.
Frauenkirche (Dom)
Near the Marienplatz is the Frauenkirche ( “Dom”). With a height of 99 m and its two towers with onion-shaped domes, it is the emblem of Munich and dominates the city centre and the New City Hall. Although the design of the Catholic cathedral is quite simple, it is an astonishing construction.
Königsplatz
After enjoying your time in the English garden, you must explore other areas of Munich, perhaps the next day. The Königsplatz in Maxvorstadt was created on the model of the Acropolis in Athens. This place is very impressive and there are also a number of exhibition halls at its premises as the Glyptothek. If you want to see more exhibitions, you should head of Alte, Neue Pinakothek Moderne and as Lenbachhaus that are important showrooms around Königsplatz.
Marienplatz
Begin your visit to Marienplatz square in Munich since the founding of the city in 1158. There are many brilliant sites grouped here, such as “Mariensäule” (column St. Mary), “Fischbrunnen” (Fish Fountain) from Munich and former City Hall. The Marienplatz, however, is dominated by the New City Hall, an imposing building neo-Gothic. The famous “Glockenspiel” in turn is also a major tourist attraction.
Nymphenburg Palace
If you still have time left, the Nymphenburg Palace in the west of Munich is really worth a visit. The history of the origins of the brilliant Nymphenburg baroque palace and its gardens cover a period of more than 300 years. In the park Nymphenburg Palace, there are relatively few places to visit such as Amalienburg and Pagodenburg. A side of the Nymphenburg Park, there is the Botanical Garden in Munich, one of the largest botanical gardens in the world.
Odeonsplatz and the Church St. Kajetan (Theatinerkirche)
Northern Munich the historic centre of the city, there is the Odeonsplatz with the beautiful church St. Kajetan (Theatinerkirche) Baroque and the Feldherrnhalle. The “Feldherrnhalle” the Odeonsplatz was designed by Friedrich v. Gärtner and victory is a monument to the army of Bavaria and his generals.
Oktoberfest (Wies’n) Theresienwiese
In late September each year, the Oktoberfest, one of the most famous festivals audiences around the world, starts at the Theresienwiese and lasts about two weeks.
Olympic Park with the Olympic Tower
Another important element, but very different and more modern park is the Olympic Park in the north of Munich. During the summer of 1972, the XX Olympic Games were held in Munich. To this end, the Olympic Park was created. One of the most striking features of the Olympic Hall, Olympic Stadium and the Swimming Centre is their common tent roof constructed of acrylic glass. The Olympic Park is the second largest park in Munich and popular not only for sport but for other leisure activities and events.
Residenz and Hofgarten
Also directly to the Odeonsplatz Residence is the one used in the city of Munich castle and residence of the Dukes of Bavaria, voters and kings as well as the entrance to the Hofgarten. Although very small, the Hofgarten is Munich in the garden centre and very appropriate for a break during your sightseeing or shopping.
Viktualienmarkt and the Eglise Saint-Pierre (Peter Alter)
Also beside the Marienplatz, it is the Viktualienmarkt, Munich’s largest fruit and vegetable market. For a brilliant view of the city, you should visit the city’s oldest church of Saint-Pierre, also known as “Peter Alter,” Viktualienmarkt. If you can climb the 300 steps up to the top of the tower, you’ll have a brilliant view.
